Perfect for my campsite, June 29, 2007

I live on a river and built a campsite on an island across from my house (the dog loves it). I bought a deep-cycle marine battery but am getting too old to lug it in and out of the canoe for charging. So I got this little panel and, so far, have not run out of juice. And it’s cheap enough so if someone steals it it’s no big tragedy. I run a laptop, TV, fluorescent light and charge my cell phone. I even have a 12v car-vac to clean the sand out of the tent.

Of course, I’m not there 95% of the time so 5 watts is probably adequate. And I don’t have to worry about overcharging. I screwed it to a big log in pretty open sun. So far, it has survived, even some small hail.

BTW, I use the power cord from an old vacuum cleaner and a 4-way 12v splitter to distribute power from the battery.

A nice tool for those who take long trips away, November 8, 2007

In 2006 I took a 3 week vacation out of the country. I left my car at the airport and away I went. Upon my return, I had to have the battery boosted for 15 minutes before it would turn my car’s engine on. I have no idea what caused the drain (Sattelite Radio memory, car’s other computers, etc), but I had to do something to prevent a .00 boost call in the future. A coworker told me about these devices and how his brother uses them to keep his mobile home powered when parked. Higher wattage products are sold, but if all you’re doing is keeping a car battery charged, 5 watts is plenty of power for the job. No other devices (charger controllers) are needed. The charger comes with a couple of ways to hook up to the battery (direct battery terminal clips, cigarette lighter plug). I used the cigarette plug. Just plug it in to the power port, and lay the solar energy collector side face up on your dashboard. For those with heavily tinted windshields, I have no idea if the tint would cause a problem with the panel’s energy collection.

This year, after returning from another 3 week trip (and using the solar charger), my battery started better than it did before my trip to the airport!

Good electric output but fragile / bad packaging, June 13, 2007

I recently ordered one of these panels (June 2007). The first one arrived shattered – the manufacturer packaging does not protect the panel much and it was inadequately packaged in the shipping box by Amazon. The replacement unit was also badly packaged for shipment.

I tested the electrical output in full sunlight and got 20V out into a 100 ohm load -> 4 watts which is pretty good.

One thing to consider though is that this product is not very rugged. The solar panel has a plastic frame but the middle is unprotected on the back (and front). So unless you handle it very carefully it is likely to break.

Someone using this on a car dashboard would need some sort of protective carrier (like those insulated pizza boxes) to protect the unit when it was not being used.

Panel stopped producing electricity in November. Had to send it in to Sunforce at my expense for warrantee replacement. They promptly tested it and sent me a replacement. One thing I did notice is that the plastic housing on the unit that I returned had developed some small cracks. I am using the unit on my car dashboard to keep my battery charged.

I’ve been using this product for a couple of years and it never fails to deliver. With regular use, it has actually saved me money because it is extending the life of my grill. i didn’t think a product like this would make such a difference, but it really does. Their other products have been just as impressive. I’m a big fan and look forward to many years of easy grilling thanks to Citrusafe.

This product actually works like it says it will. Turned my red Weber grill two shades brighter! Got rid of a bunch of the grease, but did have to put in a substantial amount of scrubbing. It does cut through the grease, but make sure to let it sit for thirty seconds or so to really lift it off. My flavor bars actually went back to the normal factory condition and are not black anymore. Just make sure to hose off the entire grill after use per the directions on the back of the bottle. My only issue that I had was that Target had it for two dollars cheaper but I suppose I gained the two dollars back on driving over to Target in the first place.

works great, February 20, 2011

I’ve been looking for a long time for a good way to clean the grill. I tried foil balls, brushes, pumice stones, etc. The pumice/ brush combo worked well, but the problem is… how do you clean the cleaners? They are too expensive to throw away after a couple of uses, but if you don’t clean them as well as you clean the grill, then they get moldy and nasty fast.

I don’t want to have to clean the grill AND the grill cleaners.

Citrusafe solves all of those problems. Now, I just wad up some of the heavy duty foil I used during to cook and use it to scrape the big bits off of the grates. Then I spray the grates heavily with Cirtusafe and wash in the sink as I would with my other pots and pans. The Citrusafe does a good job of loosening the junk so that the regular wash is fairly easy.

Small Anchor Set, May 15, 2011

These are really cute wall hangers but small. Fit with our nautical theme. They work as hangers but not very stable. Only hang from a hole at the top so bottom swings a little bit if you hang something heavy. Good deal for the price.

Beautiful/Unique… Made in China, March 26, 2011

I was very excited to see that these anchors were once again offered up for sale by the seller. Just as a reviewer before me mentioned the coloring is a pale blue & red; which is wonderful! They have a very distressed painted look to them that gives them the appearance of having spent many salt water days on the deck of a boat. It adds to the appeal/charm. The rope knot is actual rope and where you would hang your anchors from. I was a bit disappointed to see that one of my seashells was broken on the netting; I am left with a glob of glue instead. The seashell will be replaced promptly with a bit of help from my trusty glue gun and seashell collection.

Besides the broken shell I was really surprised and thrown off a bit by the size of the anchors. When I saw 10 inches in the description it built it up to be something else in my mind. I should have focused more on the fact that it is 7 inches without the rope. Nonetheless I truly love them and they are going to be a beautiful addition to my son’s room.

The feel of them is not so much wood but sturdier like a metal… I don’t think they are metal though. They aren’t flimsy or light in the least. If you are very crafty and have access to all of these materials then you might be disappointed at the price. Finally if you do not like buying any products that are “Made in China” then you will not want these.

I love them personally and they tie our theme and decor perfectly. If you know it’s shortcomings than you will love them.

Very pleased with purchase!, April 24, 2011

I bought 2 of these for our nursery. I started out with the intent to just put up one. It looked so nice on the wall, I felt motivated to put up the other on the opposite wall. The first one took a little longer to put up than the second since it was my first time applying a wall decal and because there were quite a bit of petals to apply. It does take time, but it was well worth it! They look great!

Very Disappointing, May 20, 2009

This little vacuum could not handle our floors! We have cement floors, with a few very thin and flat, antique Oriental rugs scattered here and there. The robot vacuum kept getting hung up on the almost microscopic distance between the rugs and the floor. Whether it was trying to go up, ON to a rug from the cement, or go down, OFF of a rug back onto the cement, 9 times out of 10, or more, it would hang, and then stall, and then STOP. Maddening.

Yes, it is loud, but that didn’t matter, it probably isn’t much louder than most regular vacuum cleaners. Yes, when it wasn’t hung up on something, it was very slow moving across the floor, but that was alright too — I figure that the slower a vacuum goes across the floor, the more thoroughly it is getting it clean. And besides, who cares how long it takes, if I’m not the one having to do the work?

If only this thing could have managed to actually clean the floor more than a few tiny itty bitty INCHES at a time without getting hung up and stopping, we would have been pleased as could be, despite the noise and the slowness. But, sadly, it just couldn’t do the job.

MAYBE if our floors had no rugs whatsoever, OR if it were wall to wall rug, then it MIGHT have worked good enough. But I really doubt it, because when it wasn’t getting hung up on the ”canyons” between the thin flat rugs and the hard floor, it was getting hung up on furniture legs, and walls, and doors.

Somewhere I read a review where the person said she thought this vacuum needed time to “learn” about all the obstacles in a room, before it can do a good job of cleaning it up without stalling. I was hoping that was the problem, so I kept giving it chance after chance, but this Stupid Robotic Vacuum never learned a darn thing! If anything, the more I ran it, the more quickly it would get hung up and shut itself off. We bought it from a store that has a 30-day free trial period, and we used it the full 30 days, trying to figure out a way to make it work for us, but it never did work, so in the end we sent it back.

I received this item last week. After fully charging it, i found out it doesnt work on carpet. My carpet is ordinary one. It works 2 seconds on carpet, but works well on hardwood floor.

I’ve been using this twice a day for the 5 days that I’ve had it, and few complaints so far. The run time is around 6 hours on max clean, it does a through job of picking up debris, and it is not too loud.
Sometimes during cleaning it gets stuck under furniture and will shut off. You will want to be sure to pick up things off the floor before hand to reduce this problem.
The machine is easy to clean and care for, and I find it needs to be emptied after each use.
I live with 5 dogs in my home, and this is a great solution for me!

This is the second one I owned, buying the first year’s ago from The Container Store. The Container Store no longer carries this model. I like it because of the open view of the contents and the different sized pockets. Packs very flat or I can fold it up. Hangs in bathroom of hotel so as not to take up counter space. First one after many years and hard travel the plastic became brittle and split open around the edges. I covered with duck tape until I found this one. Hard to find so I bought two to last me many years.

I bought two of these toiletry organizers, one for my daughter and one for my son-in-law. They had previously used ones that came with our luggage set, and I was trying to find similar bags for them. These bags are high quality, even have velcro to help keep folded. What they did not like about them and what I did not realize when I ordered them is that they are a bit wide for my daughter’s overnight bag. The top and second rows are also individual compartments separate from the other compartments. I thought the top row and also the second row were one large compartment closed by a zipper.These did not work for our purposes but are top quality for someone who realizes these types of bags are so practical for traveling. When you get to your room, you just hang it in the bathroom. You don’t have to use counter space or go rummaging around through your luggage looking for small items. I recommend this product.

Works great 3 years later, November 20, 2010

I purchased the Power 30 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch nearly three years ago.
I installed the switch to provided uninterupted service between my Honda 3000 EU and my Magnum 2800 watt inverter.
The switch has worked flawlessly for nearly three years, providing uninterupted power when the generator shuts down.
I have observed no chatter or RF problems with this switch, and it works fine in any position.
The only complaint I have is that the case is a bit weak, however it is rated for indoor use only so this was not a problem during installation.
If you are looking for a 30 amp transfer switch that holds up well to time and nameplate ratings at a reasonable cost, consider this switch.
P.S. I don’t have information on the contact reps before failure but I installed one of these in a friends house to switch his Trace 2000 inverter over 10 years ago and he tells me that it still works fine. (So does the inverter)

Very excellent product for its cost. Very easy to install and configure. Works perfectly. Put two in the travel trailer so it switches between invertor, shore power and generator.

I love the time delay when shore/generator power is plugged in. I love the fact it will disconnect my generator if the generator’s output voltage gets low.

A good basic heating pad at a bargain price., December 7, 2006

I was pleasantly surprised when I began using the Sunbeam Health at Home heating pad (756-500). It heats up quickly and the heat is consistent. The controller is very easy to use, especially for those of us with arthritic hands.

There are no fancy features on this pad. No auto shut-off, no moist heat, an inexpensive cotton cover, and it is not over-sized. For the price I can’t complain. The consistent, even heat more than makes up for the lack of features. This is replacing another brand which cost more than three times as much, was slow to heat and did not maintain a constant temperature (varied from too hot to not enough heat regardless of the setting).

If you are looking for a basic heating pad that actually works well, this one will fill the bill.

I bought this for my aging cat, and despite the warnings (“Don’t use this for animals”), I’ve used it and he’s loved it. On the lowest setting, it is warm without hotspots, and when wrapped in a towel, it provides a very subtle, even heat. The controller is large, and I could see how someone with arthritic fingers might have an easier time operating it. The single slider moves easily, and there is a bright red LED to indicate that the unit is on, just in case you can’t tell by touch. Overall construction seems a bit chintzy – cheap plastic with a flimsy fabric cover, but as long as it continues to do the job, I won’t complain.

Do not buy this heating pad. Potentially fatal., January 1, 2009

I have never written a review for any product on Amazon. Although I frequently read reviews before buying. Do not buy any Sunbeam heating pad. I was using my Sunbeam heating pad tonight and it spontaneously ignited, starting a small fire. Thankfully I had not left the heating pad unattended so my house is still standing. I was shocked at how quickly my bathrobe, pillow case and pillow caught fire. I also have burns on my skin. I have tried to contact Sunbeam to register a complaint and urge them to conduct a product recall but their offices are closed. If you google “class action lawsuit Sunbeam heating pads” you will find numerous cases and photos.

Please rethink any heating pad or electric blanket purchases. The companies that produce these items don’t seem very responsible for the fires and deaths they cause. Been a 1 year = works great and worth every penny, July 25, 2011

We moved into a new house and had to replace both furnaces (yes – both – so cost was X2). A much respected HAC company recommended these Aprilaire 5000. I was a little reluctant given the cost (especially x 2) – but, my wife had bad allergies at our old house. I knew it would be expensive, but if it worked, then it would be worth every penny.

Well……….. it did !! Her headaches and overall allergies have been gone for the past 1 year. However, her allergies have returned, but I am 95% sure its my fault since I have not changed the filter in 1 year (since we bought them). I remember the guy telling me that you have to change them at least once a year, and if you don’t, then you will know it !! I know it now – just ordered new filters.

I normally don’t write reviews, but I know I was VERY reluctant at the time, and there were not many reviews………. plus, these units are not cheap ……… but I am happy to say, I love both our units (they cycle every half an hour – I have not noticed any material change in the electric bill). If you have allergies, I would give it a try. Worse case, and if does not work, then you spent a little more, and just leave the unit turned off, and just use it as a “regular” passive filter (that is the other thing I like – at the end of the day, you can just leave it off and run as a regular filter).

FYI – ended up buying the unit from someone else who was not familiar with the these units. Have your contractor review the wiring carefully. This are not normal airlifters in that they are passive, instead they control your furnace, which is different than what most HAC contractors are use to. Took my guy about 3 tries to get it right !!

Installed Inside At Primary Filter, September 12, 2011

In my case I needed to install the Aprilaire 5000 inside the house, just behind the primary air filter. I have one of those “package” A/C units with everything outside the house except for the filter for the return air. So I really needed to install the electronic air cleaner inside away from the elements.

The Aprilaire 5000 was install by removing the existing ducting behind the primary filter and fabricating a new duct to allow the air cleaner to be installed in the path of the air flow. I already had power in this location and the thermostat was just above the filter location. Hookup was simple and without incident. The only issue was that the power for the air cleaner needs to be switched depending on the A/C unit fan operation.

Instead of using the Aprilaire fan switch as recommended by Aprilaire, which assumes your electronic air filter will be installed near the A/C components, I decided that a “sail switch” would be preferred as it could turn on the electronic air cleaner when it sensed air movement in the return duct. In the end what I selected was pressure differential switch, White Rodgers 770-1 Differential Air Pressure Switch (I found one on EBay for ). This switch is ideally suited to this type of application. It comes with a small 1/8″ tube that you connect between the switch (low side) and a 1/8″ brass barb (Home Depot for a couple of bucks) connected to the return air duct. If your not electrically handy you may want to get an electrician or HVAC guy to hook this up.

The unit has been working for a couple of weeks now. Allergy symptoms cleared up within an hour of powering it up. I’m currently running with the 30 min per hour cycle and all is well. I can breath and sleep once again.

Great air cleaner (don’t call it a filter!), September 27, 2011

ha… I suppose you can call it an air filter… but they say Air Cleaner…

I ordered this to add to my old furnace, but then decided to upgrade the furnace too. So I had the HVAC guy put it in when they installed the new furnace.

Then we had the ducts cleaned too.

All the HVAC guys and the duct cleaner guy made comments about this being a great air cleaner.

We’ve been using it for a few weeks now and it seems to work just fine. Our new furnace has the variable speed blower so we just leave the blower on 24-7 (it runs at very low speed till the furnace or AC kicks on)

Because of this, we aren’t using the fancy air cleaner control right now… so I can’t comment on that.

I also can’t comment yet about filter life.

But one interesting thing… the filter comes in a little box… its not in a cardboard frame like you might be used to seeing with standard filters (when I first opened the air cleaner I thought they forgot to include the filter!)

The filter is all collapsed (like an accordion) and you have to install it into the plastic frame. This is pretty easy to do – you just snap on the top and bottom and then insert a bunch (6 maybe?) of plastic combs between the filter pleats to hold them in the proper position. The filter is about 4″ or 5″ thick… which creates a lot of surface area for collecting dust and whatnot. standard filters are only 1″ thick)

Once you have it in place, you snap the ends of the plastic box shut… they have foam or something on them so they seal up tight against the ends of the filter medium to prevent any air from “bypassing” the filter.

I mainly mention this for those that might wonder why replacement filters are only like (last I checked)… I think the low cost is because the filter isn’t in a cardboard frame which would require more assembly and shipping costs.

Anyway, this is rather expensive – but it seems to be one of the more affordable options for a better air cleaner. Plus if these filters really do last a year then there is some savings on buying filters… I probably replaced my old style filter 3-4 times a year at 12-15 bucks per filter. If you want to upgrade your current filter then this seems to be a good way to go.
