The National Kitchen & Bath Association has taken a first step toward reinventing the installation delivery system for kitchens and bathrooms, by recognizing the need for trained professional installers. With the knowledge necessary to compete and succeed, kitchen and bathroom installers can take control of the installation delivery system and become a principle segment of the industry. If the industry is to achieve maximum efficiency from installation personnel, kitchen and bath installers must do more than traditional cabinet, countertop and carpentry work. They must be responsible for all phases of the project including project management; customer service in the field; and quality control before, during, and after the installation. This manual is intended to be an on-going source of support and training for professional installers. Its goal is to provide the management skills necessary to increase installers' professional stature, and to create a strong and vital installation delivery system for kitchens and bathrooms.

Luxury Bathrooms That Cost Peanuts – Learn The Secrets
Just because your bathroom looks like it costs a fortune doesn’t mean you actually spent a fortune. Read on and find out how you can achieve a luxury bathrooms effect without breaking the bank.
The Secret of Luxury Bathrooms is in the Design – Not the Wallet
One of the bathroom companies I do some work with have installed thousands of bathrooms over the years and the one thing that always surprises me is how consistantly good they look. At one point I was talking to one of the directors about how luxurious his bathrooms were and I was suprised when he confided in me and said “It’s all down to the designers – the majority of the fittings they install are pretty much standard, it’s the way that it’s put together that makes everything look luxurious.”
Designers play such an important role when it comes to creating new designs but how many of us call in designers to design out bathroom? Let’s face it the most we do is visit a few showrooms, look at a few catalogues and then we know exactly what we want in that we just copy what we see and pay the asking price.
How Much Do Luxury Bathrooms Cost?
To some £30,000 would seem an appropriate amount to spend on a lucury bathroom. Clearly we are talking about luxury bathrooms in prime properties situated in prime locations. For most of us however, we have to make do with a more realistic budget to achieve our luxury bathroom.
Lesson 1: Don’t waste money on the white stuff. By that I mean don’t pay more than is necessary for a white suite. You can pick up a basic white bathroom suite for around £500 that will do the trick.
Lesson 2: Don’t waste money on brand names for showers or taps. I guarantee you that most of the component parts are the same.
Lesson 3: Choose large rectangleur tiles and tile all the wall up to the ceiling. Don’t waste money on marble or limestone unless you home is worth at least £1,000,000.
Lesson 4: Don’t bother with underfloor heating. Why? Because you can’t see it and it is almost all gimmick with little or no practical gain.
Lesson 5: Do install recesed low voltage lights – the smaller the better preferably plain white or chrome.
Lesson 6: Do tile the floor with a compatible floor tile and keep it large.
Lesson 7: Spend as much as you want on the fittings such as lighting pull cord, blinds, towel rail, cabinets etc… Why? Because you can take them with you if you want.
Conclusion
By this time, if the work has been done correctly you should now be looking at a luxury bathroom at the most minium cost. Clearly, you may have spent £2,000 or £10,000 but if you have followed my advice you will have the spent the money in the right areas to achieve your lucury bathroom.

Are you planning to install a new sink in your bathroom?
Installing a new sink can help create a whole new look in your bathroom. But, before you make a purchase, it is a good idea to become familiar with the various bathroom sink designs that are available today. By doing so, you can be certain to select the design that best meets your needs as well as your style.
There are five basic bathroom sink designs to select from when remodeling your bathroom. These include:
Vanity Sinks
Vanity sinks are installed in cabinetry. The drop-in design fits into a hole that has been cut into the counter top, while the under-mount design is mounted under the counter. The under-mount design is most typically used with granite or marble counters, which have finished edges.
Pedestal sinks
Pedestal sinks rest on a pedestal, making them a good choice for smaller bathrooms. Since they are typically just one or two pieces, and are made from marble or porcelain, they can add a sophisticated look to a bathroom. They do not, however, provide storage space like vanity sinks do.
Vessel sinks
Vessel sinks rest on top of the counter, rather than being inserted into the sink. Although vessel sinks are typically round, a variety of different shapes and designs are available. Glass bathroom vessel sinksare popular, but this type of sink is also available in stone, metal and a variety of other materials. When installing a vessel sink, care must be taken to select faucets that are capable of reaching over the sink, while still keeping the handles easily accessible.
Console sinks
Console sinks are mounted on the counter top, but are connected to the wall in the back and are supported by two front legs. These sinks do not have a cabinet beneath them, which reduces the amount of storage available. At the same time, the open design helps make the bathroom appear larger, and the space can still be used for storage if necessary. Due to the delicate look of console sinks, they are best suited for bathrooms that are decorated with soft tones and light colors.
Wall mounted sinks
Wall mounted skins are mounted directly to the wall and, therefore, do not take up a great amount of floor space. This type of sink is typically found in public restrooms, but is sometimes found in homes as well.
By becoming familiar with the wide range of bathroom sink designs that are available today – from glass bathroom vessel sinks to marble pedestal bathroom sinks – you can better determine which ones are best suited to your individual needs and tastes.

This over the door hanger looks especially nice and holds towels well. Rounded hook ends look more expensive than most, but the pricing was reasonable. Heavy enough to stay put, but fits over the door well. Definitely recommend.

This review is from: Panasonic FV-05VF2 WhisperFit 50 CFM Low Profile Ceiling Mounted Fan, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
You may look at the price of this fan and say, "Hey! I can buy four fans at Home Depot for that amount!" And those four fans will be noisy, rattling affairs that won't move air and won't last a year. This baby is dead silent (really - I had to get on a step ladder next to it to make sure it was on) and yet it moves 50 CFM with an oversize squirrel-cage fan (the secret) and an excellent solid state Panasonic motor. If you want to do the job right (and only once) spend the money - buy this fan! (And no - I don't work for Panasonic or own their stock.)

This review is from: Panasonic FV-05VF2 WhisperFit 50 CFM Low Profile Ceiling Mounted Fan, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
Was taken aback by the price for this fan compared to others. We went to the local big box hardware store where they had a display demonstrating noise levels for fans of three different sound levels, and found that the sound level for this fan supposedly was significantly quieter than the typical fan. It was going in the bathroom next to our family room, so we decided to give it a try.Our old fan was about the size of a shoe box for a kid's pair of shoes, was rated at 50 cfm, and was loud enough that we couldn't hear anything else in the bathroom when it was on. In fact, we could hear it running in other parts of the house, let alone the family room. This new fan is much bigger, about the size of a shoe box for a pair of men's work boots, and also is rated at 50 cfm. But it's so quiet that we specifically have to listen for it to tell that it's on, even when in the bathroom itself. Yet it still draws at least as much air as our old fan. Installation was straight forward. We had extra screws left over, e.g. for a 4"-to-3" outlet reducer we didn't need, but was a nice thought. We like the flap in the outlet that blocks backdrafts when the fan's off. And the springs used to hold the cover flush against the ceiling are clever. If I'd have to find a complaint, it would be that they didn't include wire nuts. Certainly not a big deal. The instructions aren't the clearest, and a bit confusing at points. But, seriously, after reading through them a couple times, installation went smoothly and easily the first time. We're considering it money well spent.

This review is from: Air King BFQ 90 High Performance Bath Fan, 90-CFM (Tools & Home Improvement)
Bought the 90 cfm/2.5 sones unit to replace the builder's grade 50 cfm/4+ sones. The additional airflow was noticeable and the noise wasn't - just what I needed. The frame is all plastic, which means no rust, though seeing how the bracket, motor, and motor mount is steel, I wouldn't place too much value on that aspect. The box is more rigid than the typical bent steel box, however, so there is value in that - no rattles. Installation was a snap - literally. These units have a separate bracket that you screw into the joist, then snap the unit into place from below. It's much easier than the usual small-flange-at-the-edge mounting that other units use. Indeed, I spent less time installing this unit versus removing the old (working in a cramped attic space, nails to pry out, etc.) A plastic grommet and 3 wire nuts are included too - a nice touch. The included materials note that ventilation fans have a 5 year warranty, not just a 1 year, so the manufacturer is confident that it'll last. I hope so too, as I intend to purchase more to replace the other noisemakers.

This review is from: Air King BFQ 90 High Performance Bath Fan, 90-CFM (Tools & Home Improvement)
It took me less than 2 minutes to remove the old fan and over 2 hours to install this Air King. I am very happy with the quiet, functional fan but the design of the fan made for a difficult installation. The design of this fan could have easily been slightly different and allowed for a much easier installation. After cutting a minimum size hole, I was unable to maneuver it from above or below and get it into the snap bracket. I finally found that if I remove the connector from the body that hooks up to the hose it can be inserted from below, but you still have to go into the attic to re-attach the hose connector and hose. Had the connector been directed away from the bracket instead of to the side, it is possible it could have been installed completely from below. Now that it's installed, I do enjoy this Air King fan. The air exhaust is superior to what I had before and much quieter. It is an excellent fan.

Yesterday I received the AirKing bath fan and decided to install it right after work. I had an old air king from 1967 which had to come out. That took me 2 hours and a mess to do. Then I realized that the original duct was only 3" in diameter while the recently purchaced AirKing was 4" in diameter. I picked up a 4" to 3" converter and snaped the whole thing together in 30 minutes! No more loud noise. I'm very happy with the New AirKing!

This review is from: Panasonic FV-11VQ5 WhisperCeiling 110 CFM Ceiling Mounted Fan, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
The Panasonic FV-11VQ5 is the newest release from Panasonic in the WhisperCeiling series of ventilation fans. Panasonic discontinued the .8 Sone, 110 CFM, FV-11VQ3 for this next-generation, enhanced version. It is essentially the same model with some minor variations, the most noticeable being a reduction in operational sound level from .8 Sone to .3 Sone. The power consumption between the two units has also been reduced from 30.7W to 21.1W (at .1 static pressure), which drops the Amperage from .26 to .18, making this unit more efficient. The FV-11VQ5 is relatively large, but a fantastic performer for the money. The rough-in cut required to mount the unit is 10-1/2" x 10-1/2". The outside grill is 13" x 13". A cardboard template is supplied to assist in drawing the physical layout of the rough-in cut on the ceiling. This greatly enhanced the ease of installation. Opening the unit, there's little that needs to be done other than remove the tape from the internal assembly. The mounting rails and screws are included. Aside from sizing and attaching the ventilation ductwork, all that's required is to mount the unit and wire it up. Wiring is as simple as attaching a white, black, and green wire to an existing AC line and ground source. My wife and I installed this unit together in the attic within an hour. We had complications with the ductwork that vents out the roof not lining up, which required some custom cuts to complete a final mounting. This took about 30 minutes, but aside from this, it is a very simple ventilation fan to install. Following the installation, I turned the breaker back on and had my wife do the honors with the wall switch. She pushed it and after a second looked at me with that look that says, "Uh oh... Something's wrong!" After a few seconds we heard the sound of air rushing, but no motor! Our old fan was a 4.5 Sone unit, which is very loud! This unit almost sounds like it's not even running. It's so quiet, what you hear most is air rushing through the vets. To check that things were venting well, I took half a dozen match sticks and lit them about four feet below the unit and waited for the flame to work down the wood, then blew them out. Smoke spindled its way up and out of the vents. Next, I took a lighter and lit it just below the vent and moved it around the grill. I could see the flame being pulled in the direction of the vent opening. It indeed was working quite well. Overall, we're very happy with this unit and would recommend it to anyone installing it in a residential home or small area. Those interested should realize this is a very quiet unit. Some people like a fan to block sounds that emanate from the bathroom so others can't hear any quiet noises. For those who would like this from a ventilation fan, this is not the fan for you. I'd suggest looking for a fan with a rating of approximately 2 Sones. Anything less than 1 Sone is really very quiet. Panasonic makes very good quality fans with many offerings in their "Whisper" ventilation line. The FV-11VQ5 is a quality unit within the WhisperCeiling series. Prospective consumers should also consider Panasonic's WhisperFit, WhisperGreen, WhisperLite, WhisperValue, and WhisperWarm line of ventilation fans before making a final determination which is right for you.

This review is from: Panasonic FV-11VQ5 WhisperCeiling 110 CFM Ceiling Mounted Fan, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this for $119.99 to replace my old bathroom fan that wasn't working. I am a novice on installing something like this or doing any construction work. I don't know how its possible for anyone to install this fan from below. I have an attic and I installed the fan from there. It was not easy for me to install it. First, I had to make a hole bigger. Being an amateur at cutting hole, I made the hole a little bit too big. The instructions show 3 ways you can install the fan. I choose the first way where you use the support bracket and install 2 screws from the bottom. The second way uses 1 and 1/2 support bracket, meaning there's a long piece in the back and half a piece in the front (where the exhaust and power box is located). It seems impossible to install using the second installation instruction unless you have a big space between the joist. The third way is for small space between the joist and you are able to screw the fan from the bottom on both sides of the fan.So I had to screw the support bracket onto the wood, which was really hard. I recommend drilling a small hole in the wood first before screwing the screw into the wood. It made it easier to screw it in. Then I had to screw it from the bottom, which was messy since I had to drill through the sheet rock ceiling. As for noise, its fairly quiet. You can still hear it, unless you have hearing problems. Its sounds similar to turning on a regular portable fan at a low setting. The fan is not a typical fan with blades on it. It some sort of turbine fan. Its a long cylinder that spins. There's a limited warranty on the product. Its says there is a 3 year warranty from date of purchase on ALL PARTS. Then it also says 6 year warranty on DC MOTOR from date of purchase. I guess the DC Motor is the fan? Items you will need to install this fan: Power drill and phillip screw driver, jigsaw or reciprocating saw (unless you want to cut the hole manually), 3 plastic wire connectors, goggles, a mask (or something to cover your nose and mouth).

Once I opened the box, the superior quality of this vent over what I was used to from Broan/NuTone was readily apparent. The squirrel-cage fan is much more robust and has a much more solid feel when you spin it by hand. The smoothness of the motor is nothing like that of a Broan/NuTone vent.In 11 years that we have lived in our current house, I have replaced the NuTone vent in out master bath twice. I expect this Panasonic unit to last 20 years. I have been amazed at how the level of quality in Broan/NuTone units has dropped. My parents have two Broan ceiling mount fan forced heaters in their bathrooms. They were installed when the house was built 50 years ago. They still work perfectly and quietly. The new products from Broan/NuTone simply do not last. |
